Cracked teeth are becoming a more common problem for patients in the last several decades and yet the lack of evidence-based information on this clinical entity leaves clinicians with no reliable preventive or treatment options. With the Covid-19 pandemic possibly worsening the situation, is this a developing public oral health problem that rivals caries and periodontal disease in its destructive effects on the teeth? This presentation will highlight the nature and possible origins of cracked teeth and preventive strategies to help reduce its incidence. Diagnostic and potential treatment protocols will be discussed to help the clinician to decide whether or not to proceed with treatment of cracked teeth.
Learning Objectives:
- Define the clinical and radiographic signs and symptoms of cracked teeth in order to develop a diagnosis and prognosis for the patient
- Improve their understanding about the lack of good evidence for determining the epidemiology and etiology of cracked teeth and the need for more research in this critical area.
- Develop strategies for prevention and treatment of cracked teeth
